The series of concrete blocks making up the bank at this point are thought by some to have been constructed of hessian bags filled with dry sand, cement and gravel, which hardened when the rain made it wet, the hessian bags having disintegrate a long time ago. It is also thought this feature was constructed to support the US Army \Air Force during the Second World War, when the former Hurst Park Racecourse was used for explosives storage. |
