train 6N03 on the Down Main track through Hersham station as dusk
falls. The train had been engaged in engineering work at Wimbledon
and was returning to Eastleigh yard.

DB 66005 heads into the gathering
gloom as it speeds on its way to Eastleigh. The first five wagons
in the train were a set of "Autoballaster" wagons, which were
converted from UIC registered Tiphook hoppers.

The train was composed of five type HQA
"Autoballaster" wagons in former Railtrack colours followed by three type JNA "Falcon" ballast
wagons in yellow livery.
At the rear of the train were three type JNA
ballast wagons. These were built by Astro Wagone at Arad
in Romania and belong to Network Rail's National Logistics Unit.
