St Johns Gate

St Johns Gate, Clerkenwell.  Photograph dated 17th March 2008.

St Johns Gate was built by Prior Thomas Docwra in 1504.  It stands as the south gate to the inner precinct of the Priory of the Knights of St John (The Knights Hospitallers).  At one time this building was used by Samuel Johnson.  When the Order of St John was revived the building was acquired as their headquarters and museum.
