Merehead Quarry

Rail Album for railway and other photographs

The railway wagon loading area at Merehead Quarry. The concrete pillars support a conveyor belt which can discharge stone into trains standing on either of the two tracks. In this instance the wagons in Foster Yeoman colours were built in Germany by Orenstein und Koppel. This type of wagon is fitted with knuckle couplers, except at the two ends of the train, where conventional buffers and screw couplings allow the train to be hauled by British locomotives.
