by Greg Martin

Rail Album for railway and other photographs

The following information is taken from a 1949 list of locomotives on the Longmoor Military Railway (LMR). It shows a total of 27 locomotives, out of which 18 were steam and 9 diesel.

In total 21 of the locomotives were made in Britain,  4 in the USA and 2 in Germany (these latter were narrow gauge).

Originally known as the Woolmer Instructional Military Railway (WIMR), the Longmoor Military Railway was used to train officers and men for all aspects of railway work.  Longmoor was HQ of the Royal Engineers Transportation Centre (including their Railway and Movements Wing).
